Steve Ballard Founder + CEO

My journey in construction began in Malibu in 1979, building custom homes. After completing five homes, I was eager to take on larger commercial projects. This ambition led me back to Cal Poly, where I earned a degree in Construction Management.

For 36 years, I worked with some of the nation’s largest general contractors, including Skanska, Balfour Beatty, and Hensel Phelps, holding roles such as Project Manager and Design Manager and Preconstruction Director. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to build landmark projects—from office buildings and restaurants to hospitals and airport terminals.

Now, having stepped away from large-scale commercial work, I’ve returned to my roots, focusing on special, high-quality projects in my local community. As the founder of Ballard Design Build, I take a hands-on approach, ensuring every client receives a seamless and personal experience from concept to completion.

I live in Newport Beach, where I enjoy time with my wife, two grown children, and three wonderful grandchildren..
